Trail summary: Falls Creek Trail is a connector trail in the backcountry and is not recommended as a day hike. To reach it, start with directions for Weminuche Trail #592. Start at Poison Park trailhead on trail #592, take left on Sand Creek Creek Trail #524 and reach Falls Creek Trail in 2.5 miles (with 1276 Ft ascent). Falls Creek Trail terminates with choice of Sand Creek Trail #524 on left or Sierra Vandera Trail #541 on right.
We just did a loop in the Weminuche from Poison Park – up the Weminuche Trail, out and back on the East Fork Weminuche Trail, back on the Weminuche Trail to Divide Lakes, out and back to Granite Lake, over to the Pine River trail south to the Sierra Vandera Trail, back on Falls Creek Trail to the Weminuche Trail to Poison Park. The trails were AMAZING! We did some of these trails many years ago and there were so many downed trees that it was slow, frustrating, and honestly just not much fun. Thanks you SOOOOO much for your work! There were less than a handful of downed trees on the entire 40 mile loop. As local Durango folks, we do a lot of trail/tree work closer to home and know how much work it is. We just wanted to make sure you know how much your work is appreciated – our trip was awesome because of your hard work. Thanks again!!
